A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 
AN ACT
  relating to creating a recognition day in honor of aviation
  maintenance technicians.
         BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
         SECTION 1.  Subchapter C, Chapter 662, Government Code, is
  amended by adding Section 662.055 to read as follows:
         Sec. 662.055.  AVIATION MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN DAY. (a)
  May 24 is Aviation Maintenance Technician Day in memory of Charles
  Edward Taylor, the aviation maintenance technician who built and
  maintained the engine that powered Orville and Wilbur Wright's
  first flying machine.
         (b)  Aviation Maintenance Technician Day may be regularly
  observed by appropriate ceremonies and activities to commemorate
  the birthday of Charles Edward Taylor and to recognize the vital
  contributions of Charles Edward Taylor and other American aviation
  maintenance technicians to the field of aviation.
         SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
  a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
  provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution.  If this
  Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
  Act takes effect September 1, 2009.
