A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to salary supplements and enhancements for qualified |
|
|
professional nursing program faculty members at public junior |
|
|
colleges. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Section 61.96231(c), Education Code, is amended |
|
|
to read as follows: |
|
|
(c) In awarding a grant under this section, the board: |
|
|
(1) shall give priority to providing to qualified |
|
|
professional nursing program faculty members at public junior |
|
|
colleges salary supplements and enhancements in an amount and |
|
|
manner that achieves parity of their salaries with the salaries of |
|
|
similar faculty members at general academic teaching institutions |
|
|
and medical and dental units; and |
|
|
(2) subject to the priority provided by Subdivision |
|
|
(1), may require matching funds from [a] professional nursing |
|
|
programs at institutions of higher education other than public |
|
|
junior colleges [program] or may give preference [in awarding a
|
|
|
grant] to professional nursing programs at those institutions [a
|
|
|
program] providing matching funds. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|
|
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|
|
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|
|
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|
|
Act takes effect September 1, 2009. |
