A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 
AN ACT
  relating to a program to designate the Bankhead Highway as a
  historic highway.
         BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
         SECTION 1.  Subchapter H, Chapter 201, Transportation Code,
  is amended by adding Section 201.621 to read as follows:
         Sec. 201.621.  BANKHEAD HIGHWAY AS TEXAS HISTORIC HIGHWAY.
  (a) The department shall cooperate with the Texas Historical
  Commission to establish a program for the identification,
  designation, interpretation, and marketing of the Bankhead Highway
  as a Texas historic highway, for the portion of the Bankhead Highway
  located in this state.
         (b)  To supplement revenue available for the program, the
  department and the Texas Historical Commission may pursue federal
  funds dedicated to highway enhancement for the project.
         SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2009.
