A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to appropriations to certain public junior colleges |
|
|
affected by Hurricane Ike. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Section 130.003, Education Code, is amended by |
|
|
adding Subsection (a-1) to read as follows: |
|
|
(a-1) Notwithstanding Subsection (a), for the state fiscal |
|
|
biennium beginning September 1, 2009, a public junior college |
|
|
located in a county with a population of more than 250,000 that |
|
|
borders the Gulf of Mexico and is adjacent to a county with a |
|
|
population of more than 3.3 million may not be appropriated an |
|
|
amount that is less than the amount appropriated to the public |
|
|
junior college for the biennium beginning September 1, 2007. This |
|
|
subsection expires September 1, 2011. |

|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|
|
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|
|
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|
|
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|
|
Act takes effect September 1, 2009. |
