A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 
AN ACT
  relating to compensation provided by state agencies to employees
  who elect to purchase a bus pass.
         BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
         SECTION 1.  Subchapter E, Chapter 659, Government Code, is
  amended by adding Section 659.062 to read as follows:
         Sec. 659.062.  BUS PASSES.  (a)  In addition to other
  benefits of employment provided by law, a state agency in any branch
  of state government shall offer a benefit program to its employees
  under which the agency pays half the cost of an annual bus pass for
  an agency employee who purchases a bus pass for the employee's use.
         (b)  To participate in the program, a state employee must
  present acceptable documentation to the employing agency during the
  annual open enrollment period for state officers and employees for
  the group benefits program under Chapter 1551, Insurance Code,
  showing that the employee has purchased a current annual bus pass
  for the employee's own use and showing the cost to the employee of
  the annual bus pass.
         SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2009.
