A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to compensation provided by state agencies to employees |
|
|
who elect to purchase a bus pass. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Subchapter E, Chapter 659, Government Code, is |
|
|
amended by adding Section 659.062 to read as follows: |
|
|
Sec. 659.062. BUS PASSES. (a) In addition to other |
|
|
benefits of employment provided by law, a state agency in any branch |
|
|
of state government shall offer a benefit program to its employees |
|
|
under which the agency pays half the cost of an annual bus pass for |
|
|
an agency employee who purchases a bus pass for the employee's use. |
|
|
(b) To participate in the program, a state employee must |
|
|
present acceptable documentation to the employing agency during the |
|
|
annual open enrollment period for state officers and employees for |
|
|
the group benefits program under Chapter 1551, Insurance Code, |
|
|
showing that the employee has purchased a current annual bus pass |
|
|
for the employee's own use and showing the cost to the employee of |
|
|
the annual bus pass. |

|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2009. |
