A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to the designation of certain roads as the Historic |
|
|
Bankhead Highway. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Subchapter H, Chapter 201, Transportation Code, |
|
|
is amended by adding Section 201.621 to read as follows: |
|
|
Sec. 201.621. BANKHEAD HIGHWAY AS TEXAS HISTORIC HIGHWAY. |
|
|
(a) The following segments of roads in the corporate limits of the |
|
|
City of Garland are designated as the Historic Bankhead Highway: |
|
|
(1) State Highway 66 between the corporate limits of |
|
|
the city and Centerville Road, and between Commerce Street and East |
|
|
Avenue B; |
|
|
(2) Centerville Road between State Highway 66 and |
|
|
Commerce Street, and along Commerce Street until it intersects |
|
|
State Highway 66; |
|
|
(3) East Avenue B between State Highway 66 and East |
|
|
Avenue A; |
|
|
(4) East Avenue A between East Avenue B and South First |
|
|
Street; |
|
|
(5) South First Street between East Avenue A and Main |
|
|
Street; |
|
|
(6) Main Street between South First Street and South |
|
|
Garland Avenue; |
|
|
(7) South Garland Avenue between Main Street and the |
|
|
corporate limits of the city; and |
|
|
(8) East Avenue D between South First Street and State |
|
|
Highway 66. |
|
|
(b) The department shall design and construct markers |
|
|
indicating the designation as the Historic Bankhead Highway and any |
|
|
other appropriate information. The department shall: |
|
|
(1) erect a marker on State Highway 66 where it crosses |
|
|
the corporate limits of the City of Garland; and |
|
|
(2) cooperate with the City of Garland to establish a |
|
|
marker at the city's eastern corporate limits and at appropriate |
|
|
intervals along the route. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2009. |
