A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to the authority of certain counties to provide health |
|
|
care services. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Chapter 122, Health and Safety Code, is amended |
|
|
by adding Section 122.0075 to read as follows: |
|
|
Sec. 122.0075. PROVISION OF SERVICES BY CERTAIN COUNTIES. |
|
|
(a) As the county determines necessary to protect the public |
|
|
health, safety, and welfare, a county located on the Texas-Mexico |
|
|
border may provide health care services to a person in the county |
|
|
regardless of the person's income. The county may provide funding |
|
|
for the health care services from the county treasury. |
|
|
(b) A county may establish standards and application, |
|
|
documentation, and verification procedures for determining a |
|
|
person's eligibility to receive health care services under this |
|
|
section. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|
|
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|
|
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|
|
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|
|
Act takes effect September 1, 2009. |
