A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 
AN ACT
  relating to the minimum electronic mail retention period required
  by the Texas State Library and Archives Commission.
         BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
         SECTION 1.  Section 441.185(f), Government Code, is amended
  to read as follows:
         (f)  The commission may by rule prescribe a minimum retention
  period for any state record unless a minimum retention period for
  the record is prescribed by another federal or state law,
  regulation, or rule of court. The commission shall require the
  retention of electronic mail records for a period of not less than
  three years.
         SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2009.
