A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 
AN ACT
  relating to information for prospective teachers regarding the
  effectiveness of educator preparation programs.
         BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
         SECTION 1.  Subchapter B, Chapter 21, Education Code, is
  amended by adding Section 21.0453 to read as follows:
         Sec. 21.0453.  CONSUMER INFORMATION REGARDING EDUCATOR
  PREPARATION PROGRAMS. (a) To assist persons interested in
  obtaining teaching certification in selecting an educator
  preparation program, the board shall make the following information
  regarding educator preparation programs available on the board's
  Internet website:
               (1)  the results of any exit surveys given to program
  participants on completion of each program that involve evaluation
  of the program's effectiveness;
               (2)  statistics regarding the average length of time
  that persons completing each program remain in the teaching
  profession; and
               (3)  any other information determined appropriate by
  the board.
         (b)  The board shall:
               (1)  make written materials containing the information
  described by Subsection (a) available to interested persons on
  request; and
               (2)  require educator preparation programs to provide
  the written materials described by Subdivision (1) to each person
  interested in seeking admission to the program.
         (c)  For purposes of Subsection (a)(1), the board may require
  an educator preparation program to distribute an exit survey to
  program participants on completion of the program.
         SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2009.
