A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
relating to information for prospective teachers regarding the |
|
effectiveness of educator preparation programs. |
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
SECTION 1. Subchapter B, Chapter 21, Education Code, is |
|
amended by adding Section 21.0453 to read as follows: |
|
Sec. 21.0453. CONSUMER INFORMATION REGARDING EDUCATOR |
|
PREPARATION PROGRAMS. (a) To assist persons interested in |
|
obtaining teaching certification in selecting an educator |
|
preparation program, the board shall make the following information |
|
regarding educator preparation programs available on the board's |
|
Internet website: |
|
(1) the results of any exit surveys given to program |
|
participants on completion of each program that involve evaluation |
|
of the program's effectiveness; |
|
(2) statistics regarding the average length of time |
|
that persons completing each program remain in the teaching |
|
profession; and |
|
(3) any other information determined appropriate by |
|
the board. |
|
(b) The board shall: |
|
(1) make written materials containing the information |
|
described by Subsection (a) available to interested persons on |
|
request; and |
|
(2) require educator preparation programs to provide |
|
the written materials described by Subdivision (1) to each person |
|
interested in seeking admission to the program. |
|
(c) For purposes of Subsection (a)(1), the board may require |
|
an educator preparation program to distribute an exit survey to |
|
program participants on completion of the program. |
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2009. |
