A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
relating to the provision of career and technology education as an |
|
optional supplement to the general academic program provided by |
|
public schools. |
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
SECTION 1. Section 28.002(n), Education Code, is amended to |
|
read as follows: |
|
(n) The State Board of Education shall [may] by rule |
|
develop and implement a plan designed to incorporate foundation |
|
curriculum requirements into the career and technology education |
|
curriculum under Subsection (a)(2)(F). In developing and |
|
implementing the plan, the board shall ensure that the career and |
|
technology education curriculum is provided as an optional |
|
supplement for students instead of as a substitute for foundation |
|
curriculum classes designed to prepare a student for postsecondary |
|
education. |
|
SECTION 2. Section 29.183, Education Code, is amended by |
|
adding Subsection (d) to read as follows: |
|
(d) Career and technology classes may not be offered as a |
|
substitute for academic classes designed to prepare a student for |
|
postsecondary education. |
|
SECTION 3. This Act applies beginning with the 2010-2011 |
|
school year. |
|
SECTION 4. This Act takes effect September 1, 2009. |
