A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 
AN ACT
  relating to the appointment and qualifications of bailiffs for
  certain courts in Cameron County.
         BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
         SECTION 1.  Section 53.001, Government Code, is amended by
  adding Subsection (k) to read as follows:
         (k)  Each district court judge in Cameron County shall
  appoint a bailiff.
         SECTION 2.  Section 53.004, Government Code, is amended by
  adding Subsection (h) to read as follows:
         (h)  To be eligible to be appointed bailiff in a district or
  statutory county court in Cameron County under Section 53.001(k), a
  person must be at least 21 years old, be a resident of Cameron
  County, be of good moral character, and hold a peace officer license
  issued under Chapter 1701, Occupations Code, from the Commission on
  Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education.
         SECTION 3.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2009.
