A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
relating to the appointment of the director of the governor's |
|
office of homeland security. |
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 421, Government Code, is |
|
amended by adding Section 421.006 to read as follows: |
|
Sec. 421.006. DIRECTOR OF THE GOVERNOR'S OFFICE OF HOMELAND |
|
SECURITY. (a) The governor, with the advice and consent of the |
|
senate, shall appoint a director of the governor's office of |
|
homeland security. |
|
(b) The director of the governor's office of homeland |
|
security serves a two-year term expiring February 1 of each |
|
odd-numbered year. The director may be reappointed by the governor |
|
with the advice and consent of the senate. |
|
SECTION 2. As soon as practicable on or after the effective |
|
date of this Act, the governor shall appoint a director of the |
|
governor's office of homeland security to a term expiring February |
|
1, 2011. |
|
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|
Act takes effect September 1, 2009. |
