A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to a study regarding the Battleship "Texas." |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. STUDY. (a) The Parks and Wildlife Department |
|
|
shall contract for the performance of a study regarding the |
|
|
feasibility of restoring and moving the Battleship "Texas." |
|
|
(b) Not later than January 1, 2010, the Parks and Wildlife |
|
|
Department shall issue a request for proposals that specifies the |
|
|
parameters of the study described by Subsection (a) of this |
|
|
section. The request for proposals must require an investigation |
|
|
into the feasibility of: |
|
|
(1) the restoration of the ship at its current |
|
|
location; |
|
|
(2) the relocation of the ship to another location, |
|
|
including evaluations of possible locations; |
|
|
(3) the construction of a visitor's center at the |
|
|
ship's current or future location; and |
|
|
(4) any other options the department considers useful. |
|
|
(c) Not later than September 1, 2010, the Parks and Wildlife |
|
|
Department shall report the results of the study conducted under |
|
|
this section to the governor, the lieutenant governor, and the |
|
|
speaker of the house of representatives and to the members of the |
|
|
committee in each house of the legislature with primary |
|
|
jurisdiction over historic sites. |
|
|
SECTION 2. EFFECTIVE DATE. This Act takes effect September |
|
|
1, 2009. |
