A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to making a voluntary contribution to a political party |
|
|
when registering a motor vehicle. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Subchapter D, Chapter 502, Transportation Code, |
|
|
is amended by adding Section 502.1746 to read as follows: |
|
|
Sec. 502.1746. VOLUNTARY CONTRIBUTION TO POLITICAL PARTY. |
|
|
(a) When a person registers a motor vehicle under this chapter, |
|
|
the person is entitled to make a voluntary contribution in any |
|
|
amount to a political party designated by the person, but only if a |
|
|
nominee of the political party was a candidate for a statewide |
|
|
office in the preceding general election for state and county |
|
|
officers. |
|
|
(b) The county assessor-collector shall send a contribution |
|
|
collected under this section to the secretary of state, who shall |
|
|
remit the contribution to the treasurer of the designated political |
|
|
party. |
|
|
(c) The secretary of state may adopt rules and forms to |
|
|
administer this section. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2009. |
