A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to school district publishing of Texas Education Agency |
|
|
and United States Department of Education general information in |
|
|
student handbooks and online. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Subchapter D, Chapter 11, Education Code, is |
|
|
amended by adding Section 11.177 to read as follows: |
|
|
Sec. 11.177. DISTRICT WEBSITE: LINKS TO STATE AND FEDERAL |
|
|
EDUCATION AGENCIES. A school district that maintains an Internet |
|
|
website shall make available to the public on the website: |
|
|
(1) a link to the agency's Internet website; and |
|
|
(2) a link to the United States Department of |
|
|
Education Internet website. |
|
|
SECTION 2. Chapter 26, Education Code, is amended by adding |
|
|
Section 26.017 to read as follows: |
|
|
Sec. 26.017. INFORMATION IN STUDENT HANDBOOK. Each school |
|
|
district shall publish general information regarding the agency and |
|
|
the United States Department of Education in the district's student |
|
|
handbook. |
|
|
SECTION 3. This Act applies beginning with the 2009-2010 |
|
|
school year. |
|
|
SECTION 4. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|
|
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|
|
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|
|
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|
|
Act takes effect September 1, 2009. |
