CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
|
|
WHEREAS, After more than four decades of exemplary service, |
|
Colonel Thomas A. Davis, Jr., retired from the Texas Department of |
|
Public Safety on August 31, 2008; and |
|
WHEREAS, Tommy Davis joined the Texas Department of Public |
|
Safety on November 18, 1964; following his graduation from the DPS |
|
Academy, he worked in Houston at the Driver License Service, the |
|
Highway Patrol Service, and the Criminal Intelligence Service; he |
|
transferred to Austin in 1983, with his promotion to sergeant, and |
|
he subsequently became assistant service commander; and |
|
WHEREAS, Through the years, Colonel Davis took on |
|
ever-increasing responsibility as assistant chief and chief of the |
|
Criminal Law Enforcement Division; he was named assistant director |
|
of the agency in 1996, and he skillfully led DPS as its director |
|
from March 1, 2000, until his retirement; and |
|
WHEREAS, This esteemed public servant further distinguished |
|
himself as a board member of the Texas Board of Private |
|
Investigators and Private Security Agencies, the Automobile |
|
Burglary and Theft Prevention Authority, and the Fleetwood Memorial |
|
Foundation; a longtime member of the International Association of |
|
Chiefs of Police, he also holds master and instructor licenses with |
|
the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and |
|
Education; and |
|
WHEREAS, The commitment, professionalism, and leadership of |
|
Tommy Davis have greatly benefited the people of Texas, and his |
|
steadfast efforts in behalf of public safety have earned him the |
|
lasting respect and admiration of all who have been privileged to |
|
work with him; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the 81st Legislature of the State of Texas |
|
hereby congratulate Colonel Thomas A. Davis, Jr., on his retirement |
|
as director of the Texas Department of Public Safety and honor him |
|
for his numerous contributions to the state; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Colonel Davis as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives and Senate. |
