CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
         WHEREAS, The Denton Chamber of Commerce is marking a
  significant milestone in its rich history with the celebration of
  its centennial in 2009; and
         WHEREAS, Since its inception in 1909, the Denton Chamber of
  Commerce has been guided by the belief that with the collective
  resources of its diverse membership, it can accomplish great things
  in the local business community; a strong advocate of free
  enterprise, this nonprofit, volunteer-based organization has
  supported agriculture, education, and the development of new
  industries, and it has raised funds for highways and public transit
  and for the construction of the city's first hospital, hotel, and
  airport; and
         WHEREAS, The chamber strives to be a positive influence on
  the continued growth of the area economy, bringing lasting benefits
  to all types of businesses; governed by a board of directors elected
  from within its membership, the organization is structured into
  various divisions that oversee internal operations as well as
  business, area, community, and member development; each year, the
  board identifies the major issues that the chamber will address
  through its Annual Program of Action, and the goals and objectives
  of the campaign are achieved by the members' participation in
  designated committees; and
         WHEREAS, In addition, the Denton Chamber hosts a general
  membership activity nearly every month and offers a leadership
  development program; moreover, the organization provides an office
  in the city, which serves as an information resource center for
  visitors, potential residents, and representatives from
  prospective businesses and industries; the office of the chamber of
  commerce is a front door to the community, encouraging new
  opportunities that are designed to help local businesses thrive;
  and
         WHEREAS, The Denton Chamber of Commerce has demonstrated a
  longstanding commitment to building prosperity in this North Texas
  community, and its members may indeed reflect with great pride on
  the contributions that the organization has made over the past
  century; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the 81st Legislature of the State of Texas
  hereby commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Denton Chamber of
  Commerce and extend to all of its members sincere best wishes for
  continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the chamber as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives and Senate.
