HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
|
|
WHEREAS, Family and friends are mourning the loss of John H. |
|
Hanna of Paris, Texas, who died on February 18, 2009, at the age of |
|
72; and |
|
WHEREAS, John Hanna was born in New Boston on September 22, |
|
1936, to John W. and Margie Hanna; he graduated from New Boston High |
|
School in 1956 and he later earned an associate's degree in law |
|
enforcement from Tyler Junior College; and |
|
WHEREAS, In 1959, Mr. Hanna began a long career with the Texas |
|
Department of Public Safety; he was posted first to Beaumont and |
|
later transferred to Dallas and Tyler; promoted to sergeant, he |
|
established the first sergeant station in Paris in 1973; he retired |
|
in 1992, after serving the people of Texas for 33 years; and |
|
WHEREAS, This dedicated officer was also a member of the Army |
|
National Guard unit in Honey Grove, serving 10 months of active duty |
|
at Fort Polk, Louisiana, during the Cuban Missile Crisis, from |
|
October 1961 to September 1962; and |
|
WHEREAS, A man of strong religious faith, Mr. Hanna was a |
|
valued member of Oak Park United Methodist Church, teaching the |
|
Gleaners Sunday School class, greeting his fellow parishioners at |
|
the door every Sunday, and visiting families in times of illness or |
|
grief; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Hanna loved fishing, camping, and golfing, and |
|
every winter he made new friends from among the visitors to the |
|
Lakefront Lodge campground in Zapata; and |
|
WHEREAS, A devoted father and grandfather and a faithful |
|
friend, John Hanna was beloved by all who knew him, and although he |
|
is no longer with us, the memory of his kindness and his zest for |
|
life will live forever in their hearts; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the 81st Legislature of the State of Texas |
|
hereby pay tribute to the life of John H. Hanna and extend sincere |
|
condolences to the members of his family: to his wife, Betty Hanna; |
|
to his daughters, Johnna Lynn Weaver and her husband, Keith, and |
|
Joanie Richter and her husband, Kim; to his grandchildren, Brandon |
|
Weaver and Kylene, Katie, and Cameron Richter; to Adam Spencer; to |
|
his brothers, Frank Garner Hanna and his wife, Myra, Porter Hanna, |
|
and Gary Dale Hanna and his wife, Christina; to his sister-in-law, |
|
Dorothy Riley, and her husband, Tony; to his brother-in-law, Hoyt |
|
Kestler, and his wife, Reba; to his godson, Shane Ross; and to his |
|
other relatives and friends; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate and House of |
|
Representatives adjourn this day, they do so in memory of John H. |
|
Hanna. |
