HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Mills County Goat and BBQ Cook-off in |
|
|
Goldthwaite is a highly anticipated competition that each year |
|
|
draws an impressive lineup of skilled cooks and crowds of barbecue |
|
|
enthusiasts; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Sponsored by the Mills County Chamber of Commerce, |
|
|
the cook-off focuses on the preparation of barbecue goat, which |
|
|
pays tribute to the county's importance to the state's goat ranching |
|
|
industry; moreover, prizes are awarded in other categories, |
|
|
including brisket, pork spare ribs, chicken, and beans; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, This fun and festive event features a range of |
|
|
enjoyable activities in addition to the barbecue competition, |
|
|
including a car show, craft exhibits, a Friday-night dance, live |
|
|
entertainment, and the ever-popular best-dressed goat contest; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, A beloved community gathering, the Mills County Goat |
|
|
and BBQ Cook-off enjoys the support of local organizations such as |
|
|
the Lions Club, 4-H, and the Friends of the Library, and proceeds |
|
|
from the event fund the annual Easter egg hunt organized by the |
|
|
chamber of commerce; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, For more than a decade, the Mills County Goat and BBQ |
|
|
Cook-off has played a notable role in enhancing the Lone Star |
|
|
State's reputation for barbecue excellence, and it is indeed |
|
|
fitting that this annual tradition be accorded special recognition; |
|
|
now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the 81st Legislature of the State of Texas |
|
|
hereby designate the Mills County Goat and BBQ Cook-off as an |
|
|
official Texas State Goat Barbecue Championship Cook-off. |
