HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
|
|
WHEREAS, Stacie George has been honored by the YWCA of |
|
Lubbock with a Women of Excellence Award for her remarkable |
|
achievements as a professional, and her selection for this tribute |
|
is most fitting; and |
|
WHEREAS, The Women of Excellence Award was created in 1989 to |
|
emphasize the vital roles that women play in both the civic and |
|
professional worlds, honoring women for their achievements and for |
|
their contributions to the community as leaders and volunteers; and |
|
WHEREAS, The professional life of Stacie George has been |
|
marked by her notable success as a corporation executive as well as |
|
by her skill as a leader of a volunteer organization; and |
|
WHEREAS, A 1981 graduate of Texas Tech University, Mrs. |
|
George joined Southwestern Bell, earning the company's Circle of |
|
Excellence award four consecutive years as a small business service |
|
center sales manager; named area manager for select medium and |
|
large business accounts in 1992, she moved to El Paso, where she led |
|
an initiative called "Excellence through Quality," which improved |
|
performance by 65 percent; and |
|
WHEREAS, In 1995, Mrs. George assumed the position of area |
|
manager of marketing and sales in Austin, where she was responsible |
|
for product planning, rollout, field support, coordinating |
|
marketing support, advertising, and outside market area sales |
|
efforts; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mrs. George's 27-year business career with |
|
Southwestern Bell and its successor company, AT&T, has been |
|
distinguished by exceptional management abilities; working as |
|
regional director of Valued Client Sales in Lubbock since 1998, she |
|
is responsible for sales and billings in five states that generate |
|
more than $23 million annually; since moving to Lubbock, she has |
|
received the President's Circle Award eight times; and |
|
WHEREAS, In the midst of her impressive career, Mrs. George |
|
underwent treatment for breast cancer in 1993 and 1996; she |
|
subsequently poured her substantial talent and energy into cancer |
|
research by assuming leadership positions with the Lubbock |
|
affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure, the world's largest |
|
grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and activists; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mrs. George has generously used her business acumen |
|
to promote the organization's aims as a board member, past |
|
president, and co-chair of the record-setting 2008 race; also |
|
active as a supporter of Texas Tech University and her community, |
|
she serves as a board member for the Texas Tech Graduate Development |
|
Council, the Parenting Cottage, and the Lubbock Arts Alliance; and |
|
WHEREAS, With her receipt of a Women of Excellence Award, |
|
Stacie George joins an elite group of women who have been honored by |
|
the YWCA of Lubbock; distinguished by her intelligence, |
|
determination, and talent, she is indeed a worthy role model for |
|
this and future generations; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the 81st Legislature of the State of Texas |
|
hereby congratulate Stacie George on receiving a 2009 Women of |
|
Excellence Award from the YWCA of Lubbock and extend to her sincere |
|
best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mrs. George as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives and Senate. |
