CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
         WHEREAS, Margarita Olivarez has been honored by the YWCA of
  Lubbock with a Women of Excellence Award for her remarkable
  achievements in the field of business, and her selection for this
  tribute is most fitting; and
         WHEREAS, The Women of Excellence Award was created in 1989 to
  emphasize the vital roles that women play in both the civic and
  professional worlds, honoring women for their achievements and for
  their contributions to the community as leaders and volunteers; and
       WHEREAS, An executive in the communications industry,
  Margarita Olivarez has achieved notable business success as the
  national forecast leader at AT&T Wireless; she served as president
  of the Community of Hispanic/Latino American Professionals board of
  directors at Cingular before it was acquired by AT&T, and her
  efforts to form that body earned her the President's Award; her
  outstanding work was also recognized with Cingular's Circle of
  Distinction for excellence in management; and
       WHEREAS, In addition to her AT&T responsibilities, Mrs.
  Olivarez serves as the public relations coordinator for KXTQ Magic
  93.7 FM, where she previously served as a morning cohost; and
         WHEREAS, This dedicated community leader has shared her time
  and energy with Girl Scout Troop No. 73, founding the group in 1997
  in an underserved area of Lubbock; named a Girl Scouts Woman of
  Distinction in 2005, she has planned activities for the troop,
  prepared and administered grants, and helped its members travel to
  New York, Washington, D.C., and Europe; and
       WHEREAS, Demonstrating her substantial leadership skills,
  she has served as a board member, president, and vice president of
  the Hispanic Association of Women, and her work in fund-raising,
  education, and public relations earned her the group's Hispana of
  the Year award in 1999; and
         WHEREAS, Mrs. Olivarez also supports the work of the Lubbock
  Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, and she has been a valued member of
  the boards of the United Way, Fiestas del Llano, HACEMOS, Keep
  Lubbock Beautiful, and the National Hispanic Institute; in 2005,
  she was recognized with a Jefferson Award for her outstanding
  contributions to her community; and
       WHEREAS, With her receipt of a Women of Excellence Award,
  Margarita Olivarez joins an elite group of women who have been
  honored by the YWCA of Lubbock; distinguished by her intelligence,
  determination, and talent, she is indeed a worthy role model for
  this and future generations; now, therefore, be it
       RESOLVED, That the 81st Legislature of the State of Texas
  hereby congratulate Margarita Olivarez on receiving a 2009 Women of
  Excellence Award from the YWCA of Lubbock and extend to her sincere
  best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mrs. Olivarez as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives and Senate.
