H.C.R. No. 186
 
 
 
HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
         WHEREAS, Family and a host of friends are mourning the
  untimely loss of Kyle W. Perkins of Kilgore, who died on January 25,
  2009, at the age of 45; and
         WHEREAS, A member of the Kilgore Fire Department for more
  than four years, Mr. Perkins and another firefighter lost their
  lives in the line of duty during a training exercise; and
         WHEREAS, Kyle Perkins was born in Houston on June 19, 1963, to
  Loree Baird Perkins Samford and William Lee Perkins; he grew up in
  Houston and Whittier, California, and graduated from Kilgore High
  School in 1981; he went on to attend Kilgore College, where he was a
  member of the marching band and the stage band; and
         WHEREAS, Starting in high school, Mr. Perkins worked with his
  grandfather, Marvin Baird, at Baird Tire Company in Kilgore; he
  later became the owner and operator of the business; and
         WHEREAS, At the age of 40, Mr. Perkins decided he wanted to
  serve his community as a firefighter, and in 2003, he graduated from
  the Kilgore College Fire Academy; the following year, he became a
  member of the Kilgore Fire Department and the Kilgore Rescue Unit;
  and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Perkins was an engaged member of his community,
  serving two terms as president of the Rotary Club and becoming a
  Paul Harris Fellow; he was an assistant scoutmaster for Boy Scout
  Troop 252 and one of the mountain men reenactors known as the
  Pineywoods Buckskinners; his passion for music was expressed
  through his performances with the Sabine River Bottom Tune Shiners
  quartet and the Sound Connection men's chorus; and
         WHEREAS, A man of strong faith, Mr. Perkins was a deacon at
  Chandler Street Church of Christ; he was warmhearted, generous, and
  optimistic, often volunteering to help others without any thought
  of recognition or reward, and he will be long remembered by all
  those whose lives he touched; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the 81st Legislature of the State of Texas
  hereby pay tribute to the life of Kyle W. Perkins and extend sincere
  condolences to the members of his family: to his wife, Linda
  Perkins; to his daughter, Laura Perkins; to his son, Travis
  Perkins; to his mother, Loree Baird Perkins Samford; to his father,
  William Lee Perkins; to his sister, Lanea Cope; to his
  parents-in-law, Larry and Carlene Partain; to his brothers-in-law,
  Alan Partain and his wife, Courtney, and Steven Partain and his
  wife, Cheri; to his nieces, La Rea' Fallis, Danielle Fallis, and
  Lashea Cope; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it
  further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives and Senate adjourn this day, they do so in memory of
  Kyle Perkins.
