CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The live and archived broadcasts of the House and |
Senate chamber proceedings and committee hearings provide Texans |
with vital access to the workings of state government and to |
important issues under consideration that affect the lives of |
countless citizens each day; and |
WHEREAS, Many people use these broadcasts to monitor |
legislative issues and to observe their elected officials at work, |
and while the video and audio capacity of both chambers is |
impressive, upgrades could be implemented to make the websites even |
more user-friendly; and |
WHEREAS, Currently, users must watch an entire broadcast to |
find the particular segment of interest to them, and this |
time-consuming approach may actually deter them from accessing the |
material at all; an option to search videos by bill number, author, |
witness name, and witness affiliation would greatly increase the |
recordings' overall usability and further encourage the |
participation of citizens in state government; now, therefore, be |
it |
RESOLVED, That the 81st Legislature of the State of Texas |
hereby direct House Video/Audio and Senate Media Services to pursue |
appropriate avenues to implement enhanced search options for those |
systems that provide broadcasts of legislative meetings; and, be it |
further |
RESOLVED, That the Texas secretary of state forward official |
copies of this resolution to House Video/Audio and Senate Media |
Services. |
