CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
         WHEREAS, Duncan Elementary School in Fort Hood has been
  honored with the 2009 Texas State School of Character Award; and
         WHEREAS, This accolade is sponsored by the Houston
  Independent School District's Character Education Program in
  collaboration with Character Education Partnership, a national
  advocate for fostering character education in kindergarten through
  12th grade; CEP acknowledges the exemplary efforts of schools and
  school districts in improving the behavior and learning of their
  students through their focus on building character; having received
  state recognition, Duncan Elementary School now has the opportunity
  to apply for the National Schools of Character Award; and
         WHEREAS, This notable institution, which is in the Killeen
  Independent School District, was chosen for its dedication to the
  social and emotional well-being of children; guided by the motto
  "Duncan Dragons Do Their Best!", Duncan Elementary has maintained
  its commitment to promoting a strong sense of ethics in its
  students, instilling in them the importance of honesty, fairness,
  responsibility, and respect for self and others; and
         WHEREAS, By integrating character education into the
  traditional academic curriculum, Duncan Elementary School is
  building a solid foundation for the future achievement of its
  students, and in so doing, it is helping many young Texans become
  productive and responsible citizens of tomorrow; now, therefore, be
  it
         RESOLVED, That the 81st Legislature of the State of Texas
  hereby congratulate Duncan Elementary School on its receipt of the
  2009 Texas State School of Character Award and extend to its
  students, faculty, and staff sincere best wishes for continued
  success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Duncan Elementary School as an expression of high
  regard by the Texas House of Representatives and Senate.
