CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
|
|
WHEREAS, Duncan Elementary School in Fort Hood has been |
|
honored with the 2009 Texas State School of Character Award; and |
|
WHEREAS, This accolade is sponsored by the Houston |
|
Independent School District's Character Education Program in |
|
collaboration with Character Education Partnership, a national |
|
advocate for fostering character education in kindergarten through |
|
12th grade; CEP acknowledges the exemplary efforts of schools and |
|
school districts in improving the behavior and learning of their |
|
students through their focus on building character; having received |
|
state recognition, Duncan Elementary School now has the opportunity |
|
to apply for the National Schools of Character Award; and |
|
WHEREAS, This notable institution, which is in the Killeen |
|
Independent School District, was chosen for its dedication to the |
|
social and emotional well-being of children; guided by the motto |
|
"Duncan Dragons Do Their Best!", Duncan Elementary has maintained |
|
its commitment to promoting a strong sense of ethics in its |
|
students, instilling in them the importance of honesty, fairness, |
|
responsibility, and respect for self and others; and |
|
WHEREAS, By integrating character education into the |
|
traditional academic curriculum, Duncan Elementary School is |
|
building a solid foundation for the future achievement of its |
|
students, and in so doing, it is helping many young Texans become |
|
productive and responsible citizens of tomorrow; now, therefore, be |
|
it |
|
RESOLVED, That the 81st Legislature of the State of Texas |
|
hereby congratulate Duncan Elementary School on its receipt of the |
|
2009 Texas State School of Character Award and extend to its |
|
students, faculty, and staff sincere best wishes for continued |
|
success; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Duncan Elementary School as an expression of high |
|
regard by the Texas House of Representatives and Senate. |
