CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
         WHEREAS, The member clubs of Rotary District 5830 are
  gathering in Paris, Texas, on May 15 and 16, 2009, for the
  district's annual conference, and this occasion provides a fitting
  opportunity to honor the many beneficial initiatives of Rotary
  International and the admirable individuals who make up this
  regional organization; and
         WHEREAS, Rotary International was founded in 1905 in Chicago
  and has become one of the world's largest nonprofit service groups,
  with some 1.2 million members in 33,000 clubs around the globe; and
         WHEREAS, Upholding the motto "Service Above Self," Rotary
  members have undertaken numerous endeavors to help others; they
  place a special emphasis on assisting people in developing
  countries by sponsoring medical, educational, and clean water
  projects and have been very active in efforts to eradicate polio;
  moreover, Rotary Clubs promote understanding by offering
  international scholarships, exchange programs, and humanitarian
  grants; and
         WHEREAS, Rotary District 5830 is composed of 45 clubs that
  are located in the Piney Woods region of Northeast Texas as well as
  in adjacent counties in Oklahoma and Arkansas; these groups have
  had notable success in carrying forth the Rotary mission, and their
  many accomplishments will be celebrated as part of the district
  conference; and
         WHEREAS, The annual gathering also includes a range of other
  enjoyable and inspiring events; legendary football coach Gene
  Stallings is speaking at the kickoff lunch, Group Study Exchange
  teams from Australia and Finland will make presentations, and
  attendees will have numerous opportunities to socialize and take
  part in benefit activities to support Rotary projects; and
         WHEREAS, Through their generosity and dedication, the
  members of Rotary District 5830 are striving to make the world a
  better place, and they may take justifiable pride in their many
  positive achievements; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the 81st Legislature of the State of Texas
  hereby commemorate the Rotary District 5830 Conference and extend
  to the participants sincere best wishes for a productive gathering;
  and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Rotary District 5830 as an expression of high regard by
  the Texas House of Representatives and Senate.
