CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
         WHEREAS, The Lucchese Boot Company, whose fame as a maker of
  exquisite, high-quality boots has spread far and wide, celebrated
  its 125th anniversary in 2008; and
         WHEREAS, Established as the Lucchese Boot and Shoe Factory in
  San Antonio in 1883, this venerable Texas firm was founded by Sam
  Lucchese and his brothers, who immigrated to Texas from Italy three
  years earlier; under Sam Lucchese's direction, the company acquired
  an enduring reputation for quality craftsmanship; and
         WHEREAS, During its first several decades, the Lucchese Boot
  Company focused largely on supplying the needs of ranchers and
  cavalrymen; the business began to develop a national reputation
  after Sam Lucchese's son Cosimo assumed leadership of the company
  and began providing boots for celebrities as well; Sam Lucchese,
  Jr., grandson of the founder, subsequently put his own stamp on the
  family business by designing a boot that further added to the
  company's renown; and
         WHEREAS, Today, the Lucchese boot factory is located in El
  Paso, where it produces a wide variety of styles for all occasions;
  the company's skilled artisans have created boots for a
  distinguished roster of clients, ranging from Gary Cooper, John
  Wayne, and Gregory Peck to President Lyndon B. Johnson and Lady Bird
  Johnson, and many other notable Texans; and
         WHEREAS, The members of the 81st Texas Legislature wish to
  express their appreciation to Paul LaVoie, President and CEO of the
  Lucchese Boot Company, Doug Kindy, General Manager, and Fred King,
  Director of Marketing, for their extraordinary service to the State
  of Texas; and
         WHEREAS, A classic Texas success story, the Lucchese Boot
  Company exemplifies a pride of craftsmanship that has won it
  recognition across the country and secured it a proud place in the
  western heritage of the Lone Star State; now, therefore be it
         RESOLVED, That the 81st Legislature of the State of Texas
  hereby congratulate Lucchese and commemorate the 125th anniversary
  of the Lucchese Boot Company and extend to all those associated with
  this outstanding enterprise sincere best wishes for continued
  success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the company as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives and Senate.
