HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
         WHEREAS, Friends and family are mourning the loss of Helen
  Louise Whitney of Paris, Texas, who passed away on May 23, 2009, at
  the age of 86; and
         WHEREAS, The former Helen Pierce was born on February 16,
  1923, to Richard and Vera Cooper Pierce in Medill; she married John
  Whitney in 1972, and the couple enjoyed more than 37 years of
  rewarding matrimony; Mrs. Whitney worked as a dental assistant and
  office manager for various doctors around Paris and was a member of
  Calvary United Methodist Church; and
         WHEREAS, Mrs. Whitney was a dedicated parent to her three
  children, a daughter, Nancy L. Jackson, who preceded her mother in
  death, and two sons, Joel and Jeffrey Coward; with the passing
  years, she had the pleasure of welcoming six grandchildren and six
  great-grandchildren into the family; and
         WHEREAS, Those fortunate enough to have known Helen Whitney
  remember the way she touched their lives with her warmth and
  generosity, and she will forever hold a treasured place in their
  hearts; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the 81st Legislature of the State of Texas
  hereby pay tribute to the life of Helen Louise Whitney and extend
  sincere sympathy to the members of her family: to her husband, John
  W. Whitney; to her sons, Joel Coward and Jeffrey Coward and his
  wife, Sherry; to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; to her
  nephew, Allen Pierce; and to her other relatives and friends; and,
  be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives and Senate adjourn this day, they do so in memory of
  Helen Whitney.
