HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
         WHEREAS, Friends and family are mourning the loss of Mary
  Ellen Border Tubbs McDowell, who passed away on May 20, 2009, at the
  age of 78; and
         WHEREAS, Born on May 30, 1931, to Ray and Neva Riddle Border
  in Des Moines, Iowa, the former Mary Ellen Border moved with her
  parents to California at an early age and graduated from John C.
  Fremont High School in Los Angeles; she worked at the May Company
  Department Store and as a switchboard operator in L.A. before she
  married Charley McDowell in the late 1960s; the couple shared 42
  rewarding years together and moved to Texas in 1970; and
         WHEREAS, This devoted wife, mother, and grandmother raised
  nine children, Glenn, Danny, Keith, Jerry, Scot, William, Susanne,
  Jeanine, and Libbie, and she had the joy of welcoming numerous
  grandchildren and great-grandchildren into the family; she helped
  support her loved ones by working as a school bus driver for various
  school districts, including Paris ISD, and she was also employed as
  a church secretary; through the years, she took great comfort in her
  Christian beliefs and was known for the generosity she showed to all
  she met; and
         WHEREAS, Mary Ellen McDowell brightened the world for all she
  encountered, and she will be forever remembered with great fondness
  by those fortunate enough to have shared in the richness of her
  life; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the 81st Legislature of the State of Texas
  hereby pay tribute to the life of Mary Ellen Border Tubbs McDowell
  and extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family: to her
  husband, Charley McDowell; to her 9 children and their spouses; to
  her 17 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren; and to her other
  relatives and friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives and Senate adjourn this day, they do so in memory of
  Mary Ellen McDowell.
