A JOINT RESOLUTION
|
|
proposing a constitutional amendment relating to the right to hunt |
|
and fish. |
|
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
SECTION 1. Article I, Texas Constitution, is amended by |
|
adding Section 33 to read as follows: |
|
Sec. 33. (a) Every person has the right to hunt and fish in |
|
this state in accordance with the laws of this state. Hunting and |
|
fishing are the preferred methods of managing wildlife species that |
|
are not classified as threatened species by the state agency |
|
responsible for maintaining the list of endangered or threatened |
|
species. |
|
(b) The legislature may enact a general law to define the |
|
term "threatened" with respect to indigenous species of fish or |
|
wildlife. |
|
SECTION 2. This proposed constitutional amendment shall be |
|
submitted to the voters at an election to be held November 3, 2009. |
|
The ballot shall be printed to permit voting for or against the |
|
proposition: "The constitutional amendment recognizing the right |
|
of a person to hunt and fish in this state, recognizing hunting and |
|
fishing as the preferred methods of managing wildlife species that |
|
are not classified as threatened species, and authorizing the |
|
legislature to enact a general law defining "threatened."" |
