A JOINT RESOLUTION
|
|
proposing a constitutional amendment to permit the attorney general |
|
to prosecute certain offenses arising under the campaign finance |
|
laws of this state. |
|
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
SECTION 1. Article IV, Texas Constitution, is amended by |
|
adding Section 22a to read as follows: |
|
Sec. 22a. To the extent provided by general law, the |
|
attorney general may represent the state in the district and |
|
inferior courts in the prosecution of criminal and civil offenses |
|
that: |
|
(1) arise under the campaign finance laws of this |
|
state; and |
|
(2) are alleged to have been committed in connection |
|
with: |
|
(A) an election for or the holding of state |
|
office; or |
|
(B) an election on a constitutional amendment. |
|
SECTION 2. The constitutional amendment proposed by this |
|
resolution shall be submitted to the voters at the general election |
|
to be held November 3, 2009. The ballot shall be printed to permit |
|
voting for or against the proposition: "The constitutional |
|
amendment permitting the attorney general to prosecute offenses |
|
that arise under the campaign finance laws of this state and that |
|
are alleged to have been committed in connection with a state office |
|
or an election on a constitutional amendment." |
