A JOINT RESOLUTION
|
|
|
proposing a constitutional amendment abolishing all political |
|
|
subdivision ad valorem taxes. |
|
|
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Article VIII, Texas Constitution, is amended by |
|
|
adding Section 1-e-1 to read as follows: |
|
|
Sec. 1-e-1. Notwithstanding any other law, beginning on |
|
|
January 1, 2014, a political subdivision of this state may not levy |
|
|
an ad valorem tax. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This proposed constitutional amendment shall be |
|
|
submitted to the voters at an election to be held November 3, 2009. |
|
|
The ballot shall be printed to permit voting for or against the |
|
|
proposition: "The constitutional amendment to abolish all |
|
|
political subdivision ad valorem taxes beginning on January 1, |
|
|
2014, in order that the legislature may enact a fairer system of |
|
|
fully funding political subdivisions of this state." |
