R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The year 2008 marked the 50th anniversary of the |
|
|
founding of the Sonora Chamber of Commerce; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, This vital organization dates back to October 1958, |
|
|
when several interested Sonora residents convened to discuss the |
|
|
possibility of establishing a local chamber; they agreed |
|
|
unanimously that such a group would benefit the city and |
|
|
subsequently elected the chamber's first board of directors; the |
|
|
meeting also resulted in 66 signed membership cards and some $600 |
|
|
pledged in monthly dues; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Today, the chamber boasts more than 200 business |
|
|
memberships and is an integral part of the community; in addition to |
|
|
promoting local businesses, it organizes civic activities and |
|
|
festivals and works to attract tourism to the area; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Dedicated to fostering economic growth, the Sonora |
|
|
Chamber of Commerce has contributed significantly to the city's |
|
|
development, and it is a pleasure to commend its members, both past |
|
|
and present, for their vision, leadership, and commitment; now, |
|
|
therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Sonora |
|
|
Chamber of Commerce and extend to all those affiliated with the |
|
|
organization sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it |
|
|
further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for the Sonora Chamber of Commerce as an expression of high |
|
|
regard by the Texas House of Representatives. |
