R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the
  death of Ruth Slayton Hyde of Kerrville on May 7, 2008, at the age of
  81; and
         WHEREAS, Born in Wills Point to J. B. Slayton and Ella
  Donaldson Slayton on December 4, 1926, the former Ruth Slayton
  worked for many years as a licensed practical nurse in Texas, Idaho,
  and Washington; and
         WHEREAS, She shared 25 years with her first husband, Thurlow
  Baker, before his passing in 1968; fortunate to find love a second
  time, she married Ben J. Hyde in 1971, and the couple owned a
  variety of businesses and enjoyed nearly 30 years together before
  his death in 2000; and
         WHEREAS, Mrs. Hyde was affectionately known as "Mama Ruth" by
  numerous nieces, nephews, stepchildren, and step-grandchildren,
  whom she nurtured as her own; she took great pleasure in showering
  them with meals, treats, and gifts, and her cards and letters
  regularly brightened their days; and
         WHEREAS, Toward the end of her life, Mrs. Hyde became a
  resident of the Hilltop Village retirement center, where she
  delighted others with her lively conversation and could often be
  found playing bingo with her best friend, Flossie Knowles; through
  the years, she was a valued member of the Faith Baptist Church of
  Kerrville; and
         WHEREAS, Ruth Hyde touched the lives of countless people with
  her generosity, kindness, and enthusiasm, and she left behind a
  legacy that will be forever treasured by all those who held her
  dear; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Ruth Slayton Hyde and
  extend sincere sympathy to a host of loved ones: Bennie and Mallie
  Hyde, Eva Hyde, Jason, Dana, and Danielle Hyde, John and Gina Hyde,
  Fred and Cedie Martin, Andrew and Anna Martin, Jack French, Missy
  French, Janis White, Ashley and Chris Witt, Shelly Martin, Jennifer
  and Shane Taylor, Kristi Martin, Crystal Martin, Andrew Martin,
  Jr., James Martin, Jack French III, Robin White, Shane White, Bela
  Juanel Witt, Lily Grace Taylor, and Autumn and April White, as well
  as to her many friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Ruth
  Slayton Hyde.
