R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The passing of George Hammon Cardiff of Katy on
  October 29, 2007, at the age of 76, brought a profound loss to all
  those who were fortunate enough to know him; and
         WHEREAS, One of the seven sons of Ruth Genevive and John
  Victor Cardiff, George Hammon Cardiff was born in Houston on
  January 30, 1931; he joined the U.S. Air Force in 1950, serving his
  country in the Korean War, and he attended the University of
  Houston; Mr. Cardiff's relatives, among the early settlers of the
  Katy Prairie, farmed rice for many years, and after closing his
  family's farm, he went to work for Brookshire-Katy Drainage
  District; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Cardiff became a supervisor at the district in
  1974, and he held this position until 1983, when he was named
  superintendent of field operations; in April 2006, he retired after
  more than three decades of outstanding service; throughout his
  career, Mr. Cardiff was active in the Texas Water Conservation
  Association, just as his father had been some years earlier; in
  addition to participating in many of the organization's committee
  functions, he was instrumental in the development of the Drainage
  Districts Panel, for which he was a charter director, and he was
  later awarded an Honorary Life Membership for his significant
  contributions to the association; and
         WHEREAS, A respected citizen, Mr. Cardiff was involved in his
  community as a leader of the local cub scout chapter, charter member
  of the City of Katy home rule committee, and faithful congregant at
  First United Methodist Church of Katy; in all of his endeavors, he
  enjoyed the love and support of his wife, Alby, their two children,
  Candace and Craig, and their grandson, David; and
         WHEREAS, Known for his sense of humor and storytelling
  ability, George Cardiff enriched the lives of many with his kind and
  generous manner, and he will long be remembered with great
  admiration and affection; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of George Hammon Cardiff
  and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his
  wife of more than 50 years, Alby Bay Cardiff; to his daughter,
  Candace Cardiff Latham; to his son, Craig Cardiff; to his grandson,
  David Latham, Jr.; to his brother, Robert Cardiff, and his wife,
  Evelyn; to his brother-in-law, Leon Bay, and his wife, Elsa; to his
  sisters-in-law, Faye Cardiff, Elaine Kuchenbecker and her husband,
  Richard, Doris Cardiff, and Betty Cardiff; to his many nieces and
  nephews; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of George
  Hammon Cardiff.
