R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Residents of Barker lost a dedicated public servant
  and beloved friend with the passing of Donald David Baker on April
  2, 2008, at the age of 70; and
         WHEREAS, The son of James Mayes and Anna Baker, Donald David
  "Dog" Baker was born on July 7, 1937, in Las Vegas, Nevada; he and
  his family later relocated to Barker, and during his youth he became
  a Lone Star Farmer with the Katy FFA chapter and graduated from Katy
  High School; he attended Blinn College and Trinity University
  before returning to Barker and raising his three children, Debra,
  Randal, and Bruce; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Baker graduated from the Houston Police Academy
  in 1959; he served the department for more than two decades and was
  active in the Houston Police Officers Association; after retiring
  in 1980 with the rank of sergeant, he joined the Precinct One
  Constable's Office of Harris County, where he worked for 14 years,
  until his retirement as a deputy chief in January 2008; and
         WHEREAS, A lifetime member of the Houston Livestock Show and
  Rodeo, Mr. Baker was one of its longest-serving paid employees and
  spent three decades working with its Star Security group; this
  memorable assignment allowed him to meet country music entertainers
  such as Willie Nelson and Charley Pride, many of whom became his
  good friends; Mr. Baker had close acquaintances in other walks of
  life as well and seemed to know people everywhere he went; he often
  gathered with his friends for favorite activities, including
  playing golf, and also took great pleasure in raising animals on his
  farm; in addition to caring for his horses, cattle, and pigs, he
  loved feeding wild birds and spending time with his pet cockatiel;
  and
         WHEREAS, Cherished for his unforgettable grin and gentle
  spirit, David Baker enriched the lives of countless individuals
  with his kindness, and he will forever hold a treasured place in the
  hearts of all those who were fortunate enough to know him; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Donald David Baker and
  extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife,
  Lyn Baker; to his daughter, Debra Larsen; to his son, Bruce Baker,
  and his wife, Terrie; to his mother, Anna Baker; to his
  grandchildren, Kristi, Cameron, Hayden, and Riley Baker, and
  Heather Anderson and her husband, Roger; to his brothers, Alva
  Baker and his wife, Charlotte, and Bill Baker and his wife, Joyce;
  to his sister, Linda Rasbury, and her husband, Guinn; to his five
  great-grandchildren; and to his other relatives and many friends;
  and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Donald
  David Baker.
