R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, January 26, 2009, signals the beginning of the |
|
Chinese New Year holiday season and marks a festive occasion for the |
|
Chinese American community in Texas; and |
|
WHEREAS, The most important celebration in the Chinese lunar |
|
calendar, this 15-day observance is rooted in ancient tradition and |
|
originally paid tribute to the arrival of the spring season; |
|
through the ages, this period has also been considered a time of |
|
human rebirth, and many of the traditions associated with the |
|
holiday reflect the ideal of beginning the new year in a positive |
|
manner; and |
|
WHEREAS, In addition to bidding farewell to the previous year |
|
and welcoming in the new, Chinese New Year activities focus on the |
|
human connections that are the foundation of life; relatives and |
|
friends come together to show their appreciation for one another |
|
and to remember the ancestors who contributed to their family's |
|
good fortune; and |
|
WHEREAS, The spirit of giving thanks that underlies the |
|
Chinese New Year makes this holiday an appropriate time to |
|
recognize those residents who are of Chinese ancestry and to |
|
acknowledge the vital contributions they make to the cultural |
|
vitality of the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|
Legislature hereby commemorate the Chinese New Year and extend to |
|
the members of the Chinese American community in Texas sincere best |
|
wishes for a memorable celebration. |
