R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, In an exceptional display of teamwork and |
|
|
dedication, the Prosper Eagles football team captured the |
|
|
University Interscholastic League 3A Division 1 state championship |
|
|
on December 13, 2008, at Texas Stadium in Irving; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Prosper took the title in a hard-fought 17-10 |
|
|
victory over the Pirates of La Vega High School in Waco; trailing |
|
|
10-3 at halftime, Prosper battled back with a timely interception |
|
|
early in the second half, which was converted into a game-tying |
|
|
touchdown; in the fourth quarter, the Eagles' running game came to |
|
|
life, and they clinched the state crown with a final touchdown in |
|
|
the closing minutes of the contest; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The win capped an exciting season for the Prosper |
|
|
team, which lost only one game all year, went undefeated in district |
|
|
play, and won several times by a margin of three touchdowns or more; |
|
|
the 2008 campaign also included a 33-7 triumph over neighboring 3A |
|
|
powerhouse Celina High School, a team the Eagles had not beaten in |
|
|
25 years, and a thrilling 39-38 victory over Abilene Wylie, which |
|
|
came in the second overtime period of the state semifinal game; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Winning a state championship represents the |
|
|
culmination of countless hours of hard work and an unwavering |
|
|
commitment to excellence, and head coach Kent Scott and the |
|
|
student-athletes of the Prosper High School football team will |
|
|
treasure the memory of this accomplishment for many years to come; |
|
|
now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby congratulate the Prosper Eagles on winning the |
|
|
UIL 3A Division 1 state football championship for 2008 and extend to |
|
|
the players, coaches, and staff sincere best wishes for continued |
|
|
success; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
|
House of Representatives. |
