R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, In an exceptional display of teamwork and
  dedication, the Prosper Eagles football team captured the
  University Interscholastic League 3A Division 1 state championship
  on December 13, 2008, at Texas Stadium in Irving; and
         WHEREAS, Prosper took the title in a hard-fought 17-10
  victory over the Pirates of La Vega High School in Waco; trailing
  10-3 at halftime, Prosper battled back with a timely interception
  early in the second half, which was converted into a game-tying
  touchdown; in the fourth quarter, the Eagles' running game came to
  life, and they clinched the state crown with a final touchdown in
  the closing minutes of the contest; and
         WHEREAS, The win capped an exciting season for the Prosper
  team, which lost only one game all year, went undefeated in district
  play, and won several times by a margin of three touchdowns or more;
  the 2008 campaign also included a 33-7 triumph over neighboring 3A
  powerhouse Celina High School, a team the Eagles had not beaten in
  25 years, and a thrilling 39-38 victory over Abilene Wylie, which
  came in the second overtime period of the state semifinal game; and
         WHEREAS, Winning a state championship represents the
  culmination of countless hours of hard work and an unwavering
  commitment to excellence, and head coach Kent Scott and the
  student-athletes of the Prosper High School football team will
  treasure the memory of this accomplishment for many years to come;
  now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate the Prosper Eagles on winning the
  UIL 3A Division 1 state football championship for 2008 and extend to
  the players, coaches, and staff sincere best wishes for continued
  success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
