R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Attorney and civic leader Fred M. Jones has been
  named 2008 Citizen of the Year by the Odessa Chamber of Commerce;
  and
         WHEREAS, A native of Odessa, "Mickey" Jones is a graduate of
  Permian High School; he earned his bachelor's degree at Texas Tech
  University in 1970 and his law degree from Baylor University in
  1973; he started his own practice in Odessa in 1980; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Jones has been active in his community for many
  years; he served on the board of trustees of the Ector County
  Independent School District from 1979 to 1989, and he has been the
  chair of the board for the Region 18 Education Service Center; and
         WHEREAS, From 1984 to 1988, he was a member of the board of
  the Permian Basin Regional Planning Commission, and he has worked
  with the Ector County Appraisal District since 1988; a past
  president of the Odessa Country Club, he has served on the board of
  the Texas Golf Association since 1988; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Jones continues to serve on the boards of
  Security State Bank, the Texas Association of Bank Counsel, and the
  Colorado River Municipal Water District; from 2006 to 2007, he was
  chair of the board of the Odessa Chamber of Commerce, where he has
  also been vice chair of legislative affairs; and
         WHEREAS, In spite of his busy professional life and many
  other responsibilities, this caring gentleman has also found time
  to work with the Samaritan Counseling Center of West Texas, United
  Way of Odessa, and the Texas Center for Educational Research; a man
  of strong faith, he has been active with the Westminster
  Presbyterian Church and St. Andrew Cumberland Presbyterian Church;
  in all of his endeavors, he is supported by the love of his wife,
  Margaret, and their four children, Marcia, Brad, Catherine, and
  Elizabeth; and
         WHEREAS, The vitality of civic life in Texas depends in large
  part upon the generous contributions of time, energy, and expertise
  by dedicated citizens, and Mickey Jones has proven himself time and
  again to be an outstanding leader in his community; it is most
  fitting that he has been recognized with this prestigious award
  from his fellow Odessans; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Fred M. Jones for being named the
  Odessa Chamber of Commerce 2008 Citizen of the Year and extend to
  him sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness; and,
  be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Jones as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
