R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Melissa Castano of Edinburg was named a 2008 Student
  of the Year by the Migrant Student Graduation Enhancement Program
  of The University of Texas at Austin; and
         WHEREAS, The eldest of three children born to Ricardo and
  Maria del Jesus Castano, Melissa Castano attended Johnny G.
  Economedes High School, where she was the highest ranked migrant
  student and where she maintained a stellar academic record; this
  fine young Texan devoted herself to her studies and enrolled in the
  most challenging courses available, while also helping to support
  her family through migrant farm work and other jobs; and
         WHEREAS, During high school, Ms. Castano was involved in
  numerous extracurricular activities, including Ready Set Teach and
  Business Professionals of America; in addition, she served as
  captain of the junior varsity soccer team and volunteered 126 hours
  at Edinburg Regional Medical Center; and
         WHEREAS, Her perseverance, hard work, and commitment to
  excellence have earned Ms. Castano such accolades as the Head of the
  Class Award, presented by the U.S. Border Patrol, the "E" Award, and
  the Superintendent's Academic Excellence Award; moreover, she was
  inducted into both the National Honor Society and the Sociedad
  Honoraria Hispanica; and
         WHEREAS, Melissa Castano has proven to be a student of great
  ability and initiative, and she may indeed take justifiable pride
  in her achievements and look to the future with anticipation and
  optimism; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Melissa Castano on being named a
  2008 Student of the Year by the Migrant Student Graduation
  Enhancement Program of The University of Texas at Austin and extend
  to her sincere best wishes for continued success in all her
  endeavors; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Ms. Castano as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
