R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Melissa Castano of Edinburg was named a 2008 Student |
|
|
of the Year by the Migrant Student Graduation Enhancement Program |
|
|
of The University of Texas at Austin; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The eldest of three children born to Ricardo and |
|
|
Maria del Jesus Castano, Melissa Castano attended Johnny G. |
|
|
Economedes High School, where she was the highest ranked migrant |
|
|
student and where she maintained a stellar academic record; this |
|
|
fine young Texan devoted herself to her studies and enrolled in the |
|
|
most challenging courses available, while also helping to support |
|
|
her family through migrant farm work and other jobs; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, During high school, Ms. Castano was involved in |
|
|
numerous extracurricular activities, including Ready Set Teach and |
|
|
Business Professionals of America; in addition, she served as |
|
|
captain of the junior varsity soccer team and volunteered 126 hours |
|
|
at Edinburg Regional Medical Center; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Her perseverance, hard work, and commitment to |
|
|
excellence have earned Ms. Castano such accolades as the Head of the |
|
|
Class Award, presented by the U.S. Border Patrol, the "E" Award, and |
|
|
the Superintendent's Academic Excellence Award; moreover, she was |
|
|
inducted into both the National Honor Society and the Sociedad |
|
|
Honoraria Hispanica; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Melissa Castano has proven to be a student of great |
|
|
ability and initiative, and she may indeed take justifiable pride |
|
|
in her achievements and look to the future with anticipation and |
|
|
optimism; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Melissa Castano on being named a |
|
|
2008 Student of the Year by the Migrant Student Graduation |
|
|
Enhancement Program of The University of Texas at Austin and extend |
|
|
to her sincere best wishes for continued success in all her |
|
|
endeavors; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Ms. Castano as an expression of high regard by the |
|
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
