R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, For 20 years, the Greater Houston Partnership has
  played a vital role in the prosperity of the Houston metropolitan
  area, and under the leadership of president and CEO Jeff Moseley and
  board chair Daniel Bellow, it continues to be an indispensable
  champion for the region's economic interests; and
         WHEREAS, The partnership was founded in 1989 as a merger of
  the Houston Chamber of Commerce, the Houston Economic Development
  Council, and the Houston World Trade Center; it acts as the chief
  advocate for the Houston business community and serves the counties
  of Austin, Waller, Fort Bend, Harris, Brazoria, Galveston,
  Chambers, Liberty, Montgomery, and San Jacinto; among the
  partnership's 2,000 member companies are small and mid-sized
  businesses, as well as Fortune 500 corporations; and
         WHEREAS, Partnership programs foster local businesses and
  encourage investment and relocation by companies from around the
  world by offering assistance with real estate searches, site
  selection, the planning and permitting process, and public
  relations; and
         WHEREAS, An outgrowth of the partnership's 10-year strategic
  plan, Opportunity Houston is a $40 million, five-year project to
  create 600,000 jobs in the region and to attract investment in the
  aviation and aerospace, medical and biotechnology, energy,
  information technology, and nanotechnology sectors; and
         WHEREAS, In July 2008, the Houston metropolitan area was
  cited as the number one place in the nation to live, work, and play
  by Kiplinger's Personal Finance magazine; President Moseley,
  Chairman Bellow, and all the members of the partnership may take
  great pride in this accolade; and
         WHEREAS, Through hard work, imagination, and dedication, the
  Greater Houston Partnership and its regional allies continue to
  build the area's economic prosperity and to ensure that Texas
  remains a leader in job creation and commerce in the 21st century;
  now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby recognize the Greater Houston Partnership for
  its outstanding contributions to the economy of the Houston
  metropolitan area and that its officers, staff, and members be
  extended best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the Greater Houston Partnership as an expression of
  high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
