R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives takes great pride |
|
in recognizing the members of Leadership Lewisville from |
|
Lewisville, Texas, on the occasion of their visit to Austin |
|
February 9 and 10, 2009; and |
|
WHEREAS, Sponsored by the Lewisville Chamber of Commerce, |
|
Leadership Lewisville is part of the chamber's Community |
|
Development Division; and |
|
WHEREAS, The goals of Leadership Lewisville include |
|
providing a unique educational experience for those who participate |
|
in the program and helping them to develop their leadership skills; |
|
the program also aims to motivate emerging leaders and help them to |
|
acquire a working knowledge of the community; and |
|
WHEREAS, Anyone who works or resides in the greater |
|
Lewisville area is eligible to apply for admission to the program; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, Managed by the Leadership Lewisville Steering |
|
Committee, the program requires students to attend one school board |
|
meeting and one city council meeting during the nine-month session; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, Having its participants learn the inner workings of |
|
private and public institutions and how and where one might make |
|
contributions to the community are the desired ends of Leadership |
|
Lewisville; and |
|
WHEREAS, The class of 20 to 30 members is chosen without |
|
regard to race, gender, age, education, or personal or employment |
|
affiliations; and |
|
WHEREAS, Through its efforts to build a more informed and |
|
involved citizenry and to develop new leaders, Leadership |
|
Lewisville is helping to create a brighter and more promising |
|
future for the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|
Legislature hereby commend Leadership Lewisville for its |
|
innovative and thorough approach to preparing citizens for |
|
prominent roles in their community; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be prepared for |
|
Leadership Lewisville as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
