R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Memories of a life filled with joyful times and |
|
meaningful accomplishments may comfort the family and friends of |
|
Jose Borrego of Edcouch, who passed away on January 17, 2009, at the |
|
age of 60; and |
|
WHEREAS, A native of San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, Mr. |
|
Borrego was born on June 25, 1948, to Roberto and Elia Borrego; he |
|
excelled academically and, after immigrating to the United States, |
|
graduated in the top 10 of his class at Edcouch-Elsa High School; he |
|
went on to earn dual bachelor's degrees in mathematics and Spanish, |
|
as well as a master's degree in Spanish, from The University of |
|
Texas--Pan American; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Borrego enjoyed a successful and challenging |
|
career in education that included tenures as an assistant principal |
|
with the Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Independent School District, |
|
assistant superintendent of Edcouch-Elsa ISD, and superintendent |
|
of Monte Alto ISD; he served the youth of Hidalgo County with |
|
dedication and insight, and in so doing, he earned the lasting |
|
respect and admiration of teachers and students alike; in 2007, his |
|
fellow citizens paid tribute to his efforts by naming a middle |
|
school in his honor; and |
|
WHEREAS, Active in his community, Mr. Borrego was a valued |
|
member of St. Teresa Catholic Church and shared his time with the |
|
Lions Club; and |
|
WHEREAS, A man of great integrity, wisdom, and compassion, |
|
Jose Borrego always took the time to help others, and he leaves |
|
behind a legacy that will forever be treasured by all those who were |
|
fortunate enough to share in his life; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Jose Borrego and |
|
extend deepest sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, |
|
Amelia Borrego; to his children, Melissa Peņa and her husband, |
|
Daniel, Melinda Borrego, and Marissa Salinas and her husband, |
|
Mauricio; to his grandchildren, Natali Marie Peņa, Stephanie Marie |
|
Peņa, Daniel Jesus Peņa, and Manolo Andres Salinas; to his brothers |
|
and sisters, Sandra Lopez and her husband, Augustin, Carlos |
|
Borrego, Alfredo Borrego, Ricardo Borrego and his wife, Blanca, and |
|
Jesus Mario Borrego and his wife, Juanita; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Jose |
|
Borrego. |
