R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Family and friends of Talmadge Douglas Steinke of
  Waco were deeply saddened by his passing on January 17, 2009, at the
  age of 83; and
         WHEREAS, Born in Mart on August 14, 1925, to Max and Ana Ida
  Steinke, T. D. Steinke grew up in a large family that included two
  brothers, Cleo and Pete, and four sisters, Estella, Jewell, Elda,
  and Ruby; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Steinke served his nation as a signalman in the
  U.S. Navy during World War II; following the war, he went on to lead
  a respected career as district director with the United Rubber
  Workers, retiring in 1991; in 2006, he was inducted into the Texas
  Labor Hall of Fame in recognition of his six decades of service to
  the union; and
         WHEREAS, In 1955, Mr. Steinke exchanged wedding vows with the
  former Ruth Murphree and with her shared a rewarding marriage that
  was made even richer with the addition of two children and two
  grandchildren; and
         WHEREAS, A valued congregant of St. Mark Lutheran Church,
  Mr. Steinke also devoted his time and talents as a board member for
  several educational, technical, and political organizations in the
  Waco area; and
         WHEREAS, T. D. Steinke leaves behind a legacy of service to
  his family, community, and country, and he will be greatly missed by
  those individuals who were fortunate enough to share in his love and
  friendship; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Talmadge Douglas
  Steinke and that deepest condolences be extended to the members of
  his family: to his wife, Ruth Steinke; to his daughters, Darlene
  Steinke and Mary Allen; to his grandchildren, Samuel and Sarah; to
  his sisters, Elda Lutter and Ruby Ertel; and to his other relatives
  and friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of T. D.
  Steinke.
