R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Former state representative David Counts has been a
  committed Freemason for nearly half a century, and his work in
  behalf of that notable organization is truly worthy of special
  recognition; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Counts became a Master Mason in 1961 and went on
  to serve as Worshipful Master of Orient Lodge No. 905 in 1970, 2003,
  and 2004; along the way, his efforts were acknowledged by his fellow
  Masons with the Golden Trowel Award; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Counts was appointed District Deputy Grand
  Master for District No. 91 in 1972; he has belonged to a host of
  Masonic groups in the Lone Star State, and he has served the Grand
  Lodge as Grand Orator, Grand Junior Warden, and Grand Senior
  Warden; currently, he holds the prestigious title of Most
  Worshipful Grand Master of the Most Worshipful Grand Lodge of
  Texas; and
         WHEREAS, A graduate of the U.S. Army Command and General
  Staff College, Mr. Counts joined the Texas Army National Guard and
  retired as a colonel after more than three decades of service; the
  founder and owner of Counts Real Estate and president and chair of
  Chap Operating, Inc., an oil production company, Mr. Counts has
  also made time in his busy schedule to benefit many worthy
  organizations and institutions, including the Knox City Lions Club
  and Chamber of Commerce, Hardin-Simmons University, and the
  Scottish Rite Hospital for Children; moreover, he has greatly
  benefited others as a member of the Texas Legislature, sharing his
  expertise on a wide range of issues during his seven terms in the
  house; and
         WHEREAS, Exemplifying the highest ideals of service, David
  Counts has significantly contributed to Freemasonry in the Lone
  Star State and, in so doing, he has earned the admiration and
  appreciation of all who know him; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby honor David Counts for his many years of service
  as a Freemason and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued
  success in all of his endeavors; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Counts as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
