R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is pleased to
  join the citizens of Waller County in celebrating February 10,
  2009, as Waller County Day at the State Capitol; and
         WHEREAS, Created by the Texas Legislature in 1873 from
  sections of Austin and Grimes Counties, Waller County is named for
  Edwin Waller, a signatory of the Texas Declaration of Independence
  and the City of Austin's first mayor; and
         WHEREAS, Waller County's early settlers were members of
  Stephen F. Austin's original Texas colony; the county played a role
  in the Texas Revolution, serving as the site of an encampment for
  the army of General Sam Houston; and
         WHEREAS, Before the discovery of oil in the 1930s, the
  economy of Waller County was driven largely by agriculture, with
  cotton being the foremost crop; a diverse population of African
  Americans, Italians, Irish, Germans, Poles, and Czechs came to the
  region in the late 18th century and early 19th century; recently,
  the county has experienced significant population growth; and
         WHEREAS, The citizens of Waller County are justly proud of
  their county's distinguished history and the many contributions its
  people have made to the growth and progress of our state; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby recognize February 10, 2009, as Waller County
  Day at the State Capitol and extend a warm welcome to the citizens
  of Waller County who have traveled to the Capitol for this
  commemoration.
