R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The death of Robert Mueller of Taylor on September |
|
6, 2008, at the age of 69, brought great sadness to his family, |
|
friends, and many admirers across the Lone Star State and beyond; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, Born in 1939, Mr. Mueller began working in his |
|
father's grocery store in Taylor at the age of eight; in 1949, his |
|
father opened Louie Mueller Barbecue, which moved to its present |
|
location on Second Street a decade later; and |
|
WHEREAS, The captain of his high school football and track |
|
teams, Bobby Mueller graduated in 1957 and entered Texas Christian |
|
University; he joined the U.S. Army in 1963 and served in Korea |
|
before returning to Taylor two years later to work for the family |
|
business; and |
|
WHEREAS, When his father retired in 1974, Bobby Mueller took |
|
over the restaurant, and during the next 30 years he turned it into |
|
a Texas culinary legend; often rising at four in the morning to |
|
prepare the day's meats and side dishes from scratch, he regularly |
|
worked a 90-hour week; at one point he calculated that he had spent |
|
more than 160,000 hours at the restaurant; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Mueller's dedication to the art of barbecue |
|
earned him nationwide recognition; in Texas Monthly's annual |
|
statewide ranking of barbecue establishments, Louie Mueller |
|
Barbecue placed in the top five on three different occasions; |
|
moreover, in 2006, the restaurant won the prestigious James Beard |
|
Foundation Award; and |
|
WHEREAS, Bobby Mueller helped build his family's business |
|
into an iconic landmark; though he appreciated the many accolades |
|
his restaurant garnered, this hardworking and humble Texan took |
|
even greater pleasure in the approval he received from thousands of |
|
customers over the years; he also found immense pleasure in |
|
spending time with his loved ones, especially his four |
|
grandchildren, and he has left behind a legacy to treasure for all |
|
those who held him dear; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Robert Mueller and |
|
extend deepest sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, |
|
Patricia; to his children, Wayne, John, and LeAnn; to his |
|
grandchildren, Robert, Johnson, Andrew, and Erica; and to his other |
|
relatives and friends; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Bobby |
|
Mueller. |
