R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Since 1926, the month of February has been observed |
|
as Black History Month, and on February 19, 2009, Northwest |
|
Preparatory Academy Charter School in Houston is helping mark this |
|
important occasion with a special program, themed "Celebrating Hope |
|
Beyond the Dream"; and |
|
WHEREAS, The election of the first African American |
|
president, Barack Obama, brings special significance to this year's |
|
observance of Black History Month and underscores a fundamental |
|
tenet of this great nation: that equality, freedom, and justice are |
|
rights of all Americans; and |
|
WHEREAS, Established in 2001 by Superintendent Stevie |
|
Roberts and Deputy Superintendent Erik Singleton, Northwest |
|
Preparatory Academy Charter School challenges students to attain |
|
academic excellence and to realize their full potential; and |
|
WHEREAS, The celebration of Black History Month promotes the |
|
immeasurable benefits of a truly diverse society while increasing |
|
awareness among our youth of our rich African American cultural |
|
heritage, and Northwest Preparatory Academy Charter School's |
|
observance will undoubtedly be a memorable occasion for all who |
|
attend; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|
Legislature hereby commemorate the black history program at |
|
Northwest Preparatory Academy Charter School and that all those in |
|
attendance be extended sincere best wishes for a rewarding and |
|
informative event; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for the school as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
