R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The decisive actions of Jacob Chavez on May 21,
  2008, helped save a toddler from near drowning; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Chavez and his friend, Shaun Patrick Mulligan,
  both juniors at Cedar Park High School, were walking outside Mr.
  Mulligan's apartment complex when they heard shouts coming from the
  pool area; they rushed to the scene, where a lifeless child was
  being pulled out of the water; and
         WHEREAS, An Eagle Scout who was recently recertified in CPR,
  Mr. Chavez immediately offered his assistance; meanwhile, Mr.
  Mulligan, ran to an emergency call box, and realizing it was stuck,
  quickly broke it open and called for help; Mr. Chavez performed CPR
  on the victim, and by the time the paramedics arrived, the child's
  pulse had returned; and
         WHEREAS, Jacob Chavez responded to a critical situation with
  skill, composure, and speed, and thanks in part to his heroic
  efforts, a tragedy was successfully averted; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby commend Jacob Chavez for his vital role in
  saving a toddler from near drowning and extend to him sincere best
  wishes for the future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Chavez as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
