R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, A full and generous life came to a close with the
  death of James Fuller Dodds of San Antonio on August 27, 2007, at
  the age of 82; and
         WHEREAS, Born in Houston and raised near Menard and Brady,
  Mr. Dodds was a graduate of The University of Texas at Austin, where
  he earned bachelor's degrees in both electrical and mechanical
  engineering; while enrolled at the university, he was a member of
  the Theta Xi fraternity and played tackle on the Longhorn football
  team; and
         WHEREAS, Answering his nation's call to service during World
  War II, Mr. Dodds joined the U.S. Navy in 1942; he served in the
  Pacific Theater of Operations and was part of the first liberty
  party to land at Hiroshima at the end of the war; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Dodds enjoyed a successful career with the
  General Electric Company; working in its heavy apparatus sales
  division, he retired as the district sales manager for the
  company's seven-state Southwest District; and
         WHEREAS, A longtime member of Covenant Presbyterian Church,
  Mr. Dodds served as one of the congregation's elders; in his leisure
  time, he was an avid fisherman and hunter and loved sharing his love
  of the outdoors by hosting countless fishing trips to the coast; in
  addition, he was active in the Coastal Conservation Association,
  the San Antonio Sail and Power Squadron, and the Alamo Fly Fishers;
  and
         WHEREAS, James Dodds built a life that was remarkably rich in
  family, friends, and accomplishments, and he will always be
  remembered with great admiration and affection; now, therefore, be
  it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of James Fuller Dodds and
  extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife of
  59 years, Helen Dodds; to his children, Ann Dodds Ahuero and her
  husband, Dan, James Edwin Dodds and his wife, Debbie, Thomas Ruffin
  Dodds and his wife, Georgine, and Daniel Farmer Dodds and his wife,
  Eileen; to his sister, Ella Virginia Miller; to his grandchildren,
  Dr. Jason Ahuero and his wife, Alice, Dr. Audrey Ahuero, Joey Dodds
  and his wife, Lindsey, and Ryan, Tyler, Jake, and Matthew James
  Dodds; to his great-granddaughter, Abigail Katherine Ahuero; to his
  stepgrandchildren, Cliff Hill and his wife, Carrie, Jarrett Hill
  and his wife, Jaime, and April Thomas and her husband, Jake; to his
  step-great-grandchildren, Ally and Creston Hill; and to his other
  relatives and friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of James
  Fuller Dodds.
