R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Dr. E. Thurman Walker was honored by the members of
  Antioch Missionary Baptist Church in San Antonio on August 31,
  2008, in celebration of his 15 years as their pastor; and
         WHEREAS, Dr. Walker earned an undergraduate degree in
  accounting from Colorado College, a master of divinity degree from
  the Morehouse School of Religion, and a doctorate of ministry from
  the United Theological Seminary; before his appointment as pastor
  of Antioch MBC in 1993, he served the congregation as
  assistant/co-pastor for six years; and
         WHEREAS, A respected denominational and civic leader,
  Dr. Walker organized and chaired the Community of Churches for
  Social Action and founded the Antioch Community Transformation
  Network nonprofit and Youth United Against Drugs and Gangs; he has
  served as dean of the Guadalupe District Association Congress of
  Christian Workers and as an instructor at Wayland Baptist
  University, the National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc., Guadalupe
  College Seminary, and the American Baptist Convention; and
         WHEREAS, This highly regarded gentleman has been involved in
  a host of worthy organizations in the Alamo City, such as the Martin
  Luther King, Jr., Commission, Child Advocates San Antonio, the
  Alamo Community College District, St. Philip's College, and the San
  Antonio Independent School District, among others; and
         WHEREAS, His dedication and hard work have earned Dr. Walker
  numerous honors, including a 2007 Religion Award from La Prensa
  Foundation, Inc., induction into the Morehouse College Martin
  Luther King, Jr., Board of Preachers, and the title of Clergyman of
  the Year 1996-1997 from the Nation of Islam; and
         WHEREAS, Dr. Walker derives great inspiration and support
  from his wife, Jo Angelia Walker, their children, T. J. and
  Kimberly, and their granddaughters, Raizel and Sabriya; and
          WHEREAS, Throughout his career, Dr. Walker has demonstrated
  an unwavering commitment to his church and his community, and his
  efforts have enriched the lives of many area Texans; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby commend Dr. E. Thurman Walker on his 15th
  anniversary as pastor of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church and
  extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success and
  fulfillment; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Dr. Walker as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
